McNeese Celebrating Engineering Week

McNeese State University’s College of Science, Engineering and Mathematics will celebrate National Engineers Week Feb. 26-29 with several special activities and events.

Since 1951, National Engineers Week has helped bring engineering to life for students, educators and parents by raising awareness about the contributions of engineers. This year’s theme is “Welcome to the Future” and is about celebrating today’s achievements and paving the way for a brighter and more diverse future in engineering.

On Monday, Feb. 26, McNeese will hold an open house for students of all ages, their parents and members of the community from 5:30-7:45 p.m. in Drew Hall. Attendees will be able to tour McNeese’s facilities and talk with engineering and computer science students and faculty to learn more about the engineering and computer science profession and the various degree programs offered at McNeese.

On Tuesday, Feb. 27, over 300 students from eight area schools will have the opportunity to personally discover and explore different aspects of engineering and computer science at E-Week Expo Day from 8 a.m.-12.30 p.m. in Drew Hall. Those schools include: Barbe, Hamilton Christian School, St. Louis Catholic, Hathaway, Iowa, Grand Lake, Lacassine and F.K. White.

Students will tour McNeese’s campus facilities and see project demonstrations in the areas of civil, chemical, electrical, mechanical and computer engineering as well as computer science, all organized and presented by McNeese students and faculty.

Students will also have the chance to participate in various competitions of skill and aptitude and win prizes.

The week’s activities conclude Wednesday, Feb. 28, with an E-Week Conference Day for McNeese students, faculty and staff to listen to presentations from industry experts. The engineering banquet will be held Feb. 29 to recognize outstanding McNeese engineering and computer science students.
