McNeese State University is encouraging all students who plan to attend college in the 2024-25 academic year to complete the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) now.
Students can go to www.studentaid.gov and fill out the FAFSA.
“We encourage all students planning on going to college for the 2024-25 academic year to complete their FAFSA now to have their eligibility determined promptly for financial assistance,” explained Taina Savoit, director of the Office of Financial Aid. “The McNeese priority deadline is May 1.”
The FAFSA is the avenue to grants, loans and TOPS to help students pay for college. Current students who expect their financial aid to continue next academic year and incoming students need to fill it out.
McNeese financial aid personnel have been preparing for the changes to FAFSA for several months and students can begin to look for needs-based offers in late spring, according to Savoit.
Students attending McNeese Preview Day on Saturday, Feb. 24, can attend the informational session for financial aid and scholarship opportunities to learn more.
For students and families who want in-person help filling out the FAFSA, McNeese is offering New Year New FAFSA appointments in Student Central. Every Thursday afternoon through April, staff in Student Central will have computers available and offer one-on-one assistance in filing a FAFSA. Go to www.mcneese.edu/student-central/fafsa-thursdays-registration/ to schedule an appointment.
Students and families can go to Student Central for assistance without an appointment anytime Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., or Fridays, 7:30 to 11:30 a.m., or contact them at studentcentral@mcneese.edu or 337-475-5065.
McNeese will also be hosting workshops and informational sessions in the coming weeks to assist students with the FAFSA.
“The bottom line is if you are going to be a college student next year, fill out the FAFSA now,” exclaimed Savoit. “And we are here to help you!”
