Five students in the Master of Fine Arts program in creative writing at McNeese State University will graduate at 10 a.m. this Saturday, May 19, at Burton Coliseum and four will celebrate with a free reading from their works at 7 p.m. Saturday in Stokes Auditorium at Hardtner Hall.

Tiffany Pruitt, a McNeese State University visual arts student from Vinton, won the Outstanding Merit in Photography award at the Juried Student Art Exhibition held in conjunction with the inaugural Academic Summit held recently on the McNeese campus.

The McNeese State University Summer Reading Clinic will be offered from 9-11:30 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays, June 4-28, for elementary students entering grades 1-6.

Registration for McNeese State University's summer sessions is currently underway through May 30, while registration for the fall semester is underway through Aug. 8.

The University of Louisiana System has released Beyond Economic Impact, a companion publication to its economic and community impact report. The electronic publication features workforce impacts, profiles of faculty members, events on campuses, service-learning activities, and an inside look at days in the life of faculty at the nine universities.

Gabrielle Basone, a Lake Charles chemistry senior at McNeese State University, has been named as McNeese's 2012 Student Employee of the Year. Basone works in the Admissions and Recruiting office.

Dr. Harold J. Aymond, retired professor and head of the Harold and Pearl Dripps Department of Agricultural Sciences at McNeese State University, was recently honored by the university with Professor Emeritus status.

Dr. Cheryl Northam, professor of health and human performance at McNeese State University, received the 2012 Honor Award presented by the Southern District of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance at the annual district conference in Orlando, Fla.

Louis Bonnette, the legendary McNeese sports information director, has announced his retirement after 46 years at the university. An event to celebrate Bonnette's career will be held on July 24.
